Web Design Templates: Flash

By:

Published: November 6, 2006

Some people choose to create truly interesting Web sites from scratch, forming content by hand-coding HTML and developing presentations using style sheets. Web developers invest in modules to ensure cross-platform browser compatibility.

There are some shortcuts novices can take to create a great Web site, most notably Web design templates. Traditionally, Web pages consist of HTML template files and style sheets. A Web design template is no different. It, too, is a set of professionally created design files one can use as a starting point for building a Web site. Web design templates supply the layout and the users supply their own text, graphics and photography.

Some Web sites also offer Flash templates. According to Wikipedia, “Adobe Flash is a proprietary, robust graphics animation/application used to create and deliver dynamic content, media (such as) sound and video, as well as other interactive applications.” Flash templates can be used to spice up an ordinary Web template by adding animations and music. Be careful when using Flash templates, though, since Web browsers require plug-ins to support flash images.

The benefits are bountiful when it comes to Web design templates:

•    Web design templates do not require the grunt work of making a Web site from scratch. When you purchase one these pre-created templates, it is up to you to design the bulk of the creative content. Whether the site is for personal or professional use, you will find creative input alone is enough to make a great Web site.
•    Web design templates save time. Creating a template from scratch, which includes handwriting the HTML and CSS, and creating the art, takes approximately eight hours per design. Now consider the amount of time invested in finding a template design suiting the aesthetic and utilitarian needs of the same Web site. Web design templates are great time-saving tools.
•    Most Web design templates are inexpensive, if not free. There are a plethora of sites offering free templates. The average cost for purchasing a design is about $35 to $40. Most companies even supply several templates per design, rendering them even more cost-efficient.
•    Templates are equally beneficial for novices and experts. Web design templates are easy to use and even make great learning tools since there is no intimidating code to worry about. Even experts find Web design templates beneficial since they allow expedient creation of Web sites.

Structure of a Web Design Template

All Web templates consist of at least three sections: the header, the body and the footer. The header is the top section of the template and normally it contains the page’s heading. The footer at the bottom of the template may contain secondary links or company information. The body of the template is self-explanatory; it contains the bulk of the document. Oftentimes, Web design templates contain a sidebar with primary and category links for additional information. Though they usually are left-oriented, they may also be placed at the right hand side of the template, at the top or at the bottom of the page.
